FLANC was founded in 2024 by a group of expert lawyers dedicated to ensuring that the neurodivergent community has equal access to justice by raising awareness and understanding, and addressing barriers to participation neurodivergent people can face in the family justice system. We are passionate about increasing awareness and driving change through collaboration, campaigning and education, across the legal sector and beyond to ensure that the family justice system is neuroinclusive. We aim to achieve change by ensuring that neurodivergent voices are heard and listened to and empowering those working in the family justice system to recognise and respond to issues of neurodivergence.
Since our launch in April 2024, FLANC has been working hard to support and promote change across the family justice system. Our work so far includes:
The President of the Family Division Sir Andew McFarlane gave the key note speech at FLANC’s inaugural conference in April 2024:
“FLANC is one of those good ideas that makes you wonder how it hasn’t been thought of before. The aim of this initiative is to think more broadly, joining professionals to enhance the lives of all of those that go through our family justice system. FLANC encourages us to be informed, insightful and empathetic in our approach with neurodiverse individuals and so I hope this is understood and adopted by all of us working in the family justice system.”
FLANC was awarded Resolution’s Innovation Champion 2024 at the Resolution Awards on 20 September 2024, and later won the Family law Innovation of the Year at the Family Law Awards 2024.
FLANC was also Highly Commended in the Family Law Community Interaction Award at the 2024 Family Law awards and shortlisted for the Community Champion and Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Champion awards at the Resolution Awards 2024.
